    bucket list takedown: the cloisters

I’m proud to announce that with under a week left in New York City, I’m more than halfway through my bucket list! Aaand curtsy. Fourth on my list was The Cloisters, a satellite section of The Metropolitan Museum of Art dedicated solely to Medieval art and architecture, located at the very northwestern tip of Manhattan. To get to The Cloisters, you can catch the subway from anywhere in Manhattan ($2.25 for a single ride), but it requires a few line transfers if you’re heading from the Met building on the Upper East Side. Coming up from the subway stop at…

    brussels: hits & misses

You probably already guessed from my last post: Brussels wasn’t our favorite. We had braced ourselves for this! When you plan a multi-city vacation, there’s always the chance that at least one place will disappoint. Luckily, we had a few places we loved, too. SO naturally, I thought it necessary to combine all of the above for a lil round-up of our Brussels hits & misses. Hits  Aroma Cafe (now closed) // This place was right on Grand Place so I’m assuming it was overpriced and touristy, but we were in a daze. All we wanted was our Belgian waffle…

    jetsetters: @MarioTravels

Today’s jetsetter is one of our favorite travel tweeters. Based in Brooklyn (which just so happens to be our second favorite borough), Mario’s travel tales have single-handedly moved Guadeloupe and Copenhagen way up on our list, and we can’t wait to hear every detail on his upcoming trip to Ireland (the wino’s got a year’s worth of recs for you, Mario!!) Enjoy! Favorite Place: My favorite place is Bosie Tea Parlor in New York City’s West Village.  It’s quiet, quaint and has a great tea and macaron selection.  Anyone who knows me knows that travel and tea are always on my…

bucket list takedown: walking the brooklyn bridge

I tend to get a little complacent once I’ve settled in somewhere new. When I first moved to New York, I couldn’t wait to tick things of my never-ending list of to-dos. Strolling through Central Park. Spending days exploring the Met. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge. Brunching somewhere new every Sunday. Unfortunately, working as an assistant in the fashion and entertainment industry meant twelve hour days. I had almost no free time for my first few months. With only four weeks left, I couldn’t believe how little I had actually seen. Creating my bucket list was a way to ensure I…

    two days in brussels

Here’s the thing with Brussels: it is an oddly disjointed city. In New York, you can walk five blocks and land in a new neighborhood with a different feel than where you just came from. You can’t really pinpoint when it changed, but somehow, almost magically, it did. There’s a flow to this city, and seamlessly transitioning from touristy to bohemian to ritzy in just a few steps is part of the allure. Brussels, on the other hand, practically shoves you into a new neighborhood without asking. We’d be walking on a cobbled side street, people watching and trying to…
