a perfect day in...,  new jersey

a perfect day at the jersey shore

thewino1A few weeks ago, I read an article about choosing the perfect vacation for your zodiac sign, and I was shocked to see Scorpios, such as myself, feel the most at home near the water. This seriously, seriously blew my mind.

As we like to say around here, we’re pretty happily self-proclaimed city girls, so most of our dream vacations (and real vacations) include flitting around some metropolitan area or another. I’ve never really factored water into the equation. To be honest, swimming in any natural body of water gives me a serious case of the willies.  I don’t think I’ve gone further than ankle deep in any ocean in about four years, and swimming in lakes or anything of the sort is strictly forbidden. But, I must admit, being near the water has a way of soothing me that I never really realized until reading this article.

This past Memorial Day, I got to test the accuracy of my vacation astrology. I spent three blissful days on the Jersey Shore, soaking up the sun and getting as close to the water as my phobia(s) would allow. I’m happy to report, it was pretty perfect. However, as nice as it was to wake up the sounds of the waves, there are a few other elements besides water that go into the perfect day at the beach.

A few other musts:

#1. Fresh Air

I know this seems like a given, but I feel like it has to be said. A perfect day at the Jersey Shore means spending as much time as possible outside. Coffee in the morning? Outside. After-beach drinks? Outside. Shower? Duuuh, the best outside.

#2. Ice Cream

Whenever I’m at or near any beach, my ice cream cravings go into overdrive. Maybe its reminiscent of childhood vacations, but a night down the shore without ice cream just doesn’t feel right.

#3. Boats

Last year, my family’s house in Avalon was surrounded by the most beautiful boats I’ve ever seen. One day, when I’m astoundingly wealthy, I plan on buying myself a boat and docking it at the Jersey Shore.

#4. Beer

Um, duh.

Have a great weekend, by land or by sea!
