lady romantic & lady wino, the countesses of château challain

2013 was a big year for the Lazy Travelers. We learned a lot about ourselves. Though we won’t bore you with tales of introspection, there was one main takeaway. It is an absolute crime against humanity that we weren’t born into a royal family — complete, of course, with a sprawling château to call our own. We’ve already addressed this multiple times, most notably here and here, but it bears repeating. Mainly because we’re not the only ones who feel this way — Tripadvisor’s Flipkey agrees, too. But we’ll get to that in a second. Let’s rewind. After our all-too-quick tour of Paris, we awoke bright and early in our apartment in St.-Germain-des-Pres. We took the train…

bottoms up: can’t-miss bars in paris

True fact: you can wander into almost any Parisian cafe, bar, or restaurant and spend the night drinking perfectly delicious and relatively cheap French wine. In fact, you could spend your entire time in Paris without stopping in any of the bars we’ve outlined below (but like, we recommend trying at least one), and still be completely satisfied with your drinking experience. The French do a lot of things right, and serving up some of the best wine in the world is certainly one of them. Not a wine drinker? First, shame. Second, we still have some recommendations for you! merry, merry! an #LTfrancais flashback

OH Christmas, we love you so. The holidays, if you couldn’t tell, are our main squeeze. Mid-december last year took us to Switzerland and Dublin, where we succumbed to the Christmas spirit almost immediately, mostly thanks to the mass amounts of decorated trees on every corner. This is why it was extra fitting that #LTfrancais kicked off just after Thanksgiving — prime time for seeking out the very best lights and decoration that Paris has to offer. Our first day was admittedly perfect, but as soon as the sun set and the lights flickered on, we fell in love with a new side of the city. And so, without further ado, here are a few…

no travel required: #frifotos

Happy Friday and MERRY MERRY, everyone. This week’s #frifotos theme is Christmas, which is just fine by us, as we’re in full holiday mode over here. We may not have our stockings hung by our non-existent chimneys, but we’ve been drinking champagne almost nightly, and that has to count for something, right? During last month’s #LTfrancais, we popped by the Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris for a drink, and we were so lucky to arrive on the day they premiered their Christmas decorations. Each year, artistic director Jeff Leatham takes a new approach to decorating, incorporating florals and traditional holiday decor with his signature sculptural designs. This year? Gold, from floor to ceiling.   And…

#LTfrancais: living the parisien life in saint-germain-des-prés

You know that travel quote about how no one realizes how beautiful travel is until he gets home and mashes his face into his old, familiar pillow? …Or something like that? Ugh, hold on, it’s all over Pinterest… Yeah, that one. It’s, like, the Joni Mitchell/Dorothy Gale of travel quotes (it’s also courtesy of Lin Yutang in case you collect quotes or something) (nerd). Anyway, you don’t know what you got til it’s gone, there’s no place like home, we get it. Except we kind of don’t get it anymore, because we’re slowly finding that other people’s pillows — especially those found in luxury accommodations — are WAY nicer than ours. And then, when you stay in…
