lakeside luxury // 1 night in lausanne, switzerland

It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than two months since my Mom, Mari and I were hopping from Christmas market to Christmas market across Switzerland. The time may have flown by, but fret not, my fellow Switzerland lovers, I haven’t forgotten one bit about our epic adventure and still have so much to share! Over the course of a week, we traveled by train to Geneva, Verbier, Bern, Lucerne and finallyyyy, the lakeside Olympic city of Lausanne. You may remember that the romantic and I visited Lausanne a few years back and spent two snowy days climbing the hills of Old Town. Since my mom, Mari, and I would be flying back to…

travel announcement (part two)! a week in switzerland for the wino

It’s been a really big year for me. I mean, really big. In January, I married this handsome devil. I had a year of travel firsts, from my trips to southern and northern California to our epic and life-changing #LTsouthafrica adventure. I spent time in London, re-discovered Spain, and spent many weekends toasting to dear friends at weddings, housewarmings, baby showers, and thirtieth birthday celebrations. I could happily hang my hat after 2015, but unbelievably, it’s not over just yet. You may have already heard, but in less than three weeks, Sean and I are headed across the pond for #LTfriendsgiving, the alpine edition. What you may not know is that I’m extending my trip…

itinerary reflections: what could have been

We’re not quite sure how it happened, but it has officially been one month since we set off for Switzerland and Ireland. As hindsight is always 20/20, we’ve spent most of this month reviewing our glorious week of European exploration… and discussing every detail of our days abroad, natch. Final ruling? We planned a pretty stellar itinerary. Including our extended layover in Dublin, we were able to explore 6 cities in 7 days without feeling rushed (for the most part). In true LT style, we even added an extra unplanned stop: here’s looking at you, Bern! Though we wouldn’t change much of our trip, we do have a few things we would adjust should we…

hostels & hotels & chalets, oh MY!

When we started planning our Swiss adventure, we had big dreams of snow-covered chalets and opulent apartments overlooking Lake Geneva. Because our itinerary had us going to a different city almost daily, we knew we would wind up covering all the accommodation bases. It wasn’t until we looked at our lodging options on paper that we realized: over the course of seven days, we stayed in four very different types of accommodations in each hub of our trip. Boutique Hotel: Hotel Ermitage Verbier Tourism graciously arranged for our first night’s stay, and this couldn’t have been a more perfect way to begin our trip. When we arrived, exhausted from our flight, our room wasn’t quite ready.…

swiss eats: plus de fromage, s’il vous plait!

One of our favorite parts of traveling is eating… obviously. I mean, doesn’t that go for everyone? Prior to our trip, we had a pretty good idea of what to expect: cheese, chocolate, more cheese, maybe some more chocolate, definitely more cheese. Though we certainly got our fill of both, we happily made a few additions to our list of Swiss staples–they can eat, that’s for sure. Raclette and Fondue! We were told by B&K that we had to try raclette long before we touched down in Switzerland. Before dining at Le Caveau in Verbier, all we knew was that raclette involved cheese and possibly potatoes, which was enough to sell us on the idea…
