crazy speight’s: touring dunedin’s @speightsbrewery

Though Dunedin wasn’t originally in our plan, we made an executive decision to dedicate our afternoon to a tour of the Speight’s Brewery. We had already had our fair share of Speight’s while in New Zealand, so why not learn a bit about the brand? Our guide, Rod, was the ideal guy to take us around—mainly because he kept reminding us how close we were to the free pints at the end of the tour. Unsurprisingly, beer is ingrained in the Kiwi culture, and has been since it was first brewed in New Zealand in 1773. Speight’s itself is over 130 years old, and has become the gold standard in pubs throughout the country, as…

spaceship views: touring new zealand’s south island

If I could change one thing about our time in New Zealand, it would be a few less days on the North Island and just a few more on the South Island. No, wait. We picked up our new friend—named Drako—in Christchurch. There are literally dozens of options in NZ…

kiwi adventures for up & coming adventurists

New Zealand tested me more than I expected—and I think, more than we planned. It tested my ability to stay awake in the car for hours and hours at a time (failed it), my ability to make gourmet meals from the back of our Spaceship campervan (failed it), and my ability to exert ridiculous amounts of energy on outdoor activities (nailed it). Wait, nailed it? Cha, yeah. Nailed it. Because I might not have any legs to stand on when it comes to bragging about how active I am, I figured I’d let the hubs handle this one. Take it away, hubs: It took some convincing–and maybe some bribing–but the romantic & I were eventually…
