the [extremely] lazy girl’s guide to 48 hrs in DC

It’s hard to believe that over a year has gone by since Sean and I got married over pizza and wine on a cold January afternoon. So much has happened over the last year, and yet, it still seems like yesterday. Our first year of marriage has been filled with more good times that we could have ever hoped for, and as our first anniversary got closer and closer, we knew we wanted to take some time, if only a few days, to go somewhere together and celebrate. Just like the days before our wedding, Sean was called away in late January for a work conference. It was Dallas then, and this year, it was…

foodie break: brunch at @thehamiltondc

Though I can hardly believe it, January 31st marked one year since Sean and I tied the knot. And what a crazy year it’s been! With the past twelve months rushing by in chaotic fashion, we knew we wanted to spend our anniversary relaxing and ideally someplace away from home. So, after debating a few close-by destinations, we packed up the car and headed two hours south to Washington, DC for a weekend getaway in the nation’s capitol. Since I went to college in the district and lived there again briefly after graduating, we had zero things that we needed or wanted to see. Instead, we focused all of our attention on our meals for the weekend,…

weekend getaway: 48 hours in washington, dc

Happy Labor Day, my fellow Americans! Alas, the French don’t really acknowledge this holiday–which I am ok with because I hear they celebrate about 45 other public holidays instead. While the hubs is officially back to school, I’m still catching up on our RTW coverage AND re-living the three short weeks we were home, stateside. During our brief stint, getting our visas lined up was at the top of our list. It was a whole bunch of stress (dear French embassy: WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN?), but one major perk? An unexpected weekend in our nation’s capital! Though both the hubs and the wino have lived in DC, there’s a new kid in town, and…

autumn getaway: washington, dc

Because the wino and the hubs both spent their undergrad years in DC, I’ve had my fair share of long weekends in our nation’s capitol–as well as one sweltering summer spent interning on K Street. Though I don’t know the ins and outs of the city like they do (I blame the concentric circles), I do have a few must-sees up my sleeve. Previously, it was my favorite place to visit in the springtime–who can beat cherry blossom season? Then, the hubs and I had the chance to go down for his alumni weekend and I realized that DC is the perfect autumn getaway. As with most of our weekend getaways, we rented a Zipcar…

countdown to the reunion!

I’ve been trying to brainstorm ideas for a post for the last two hours but my mind is all clouded with excitement for my weekend! In approximately 36 hours the romantic and the wino will be reunited for the first time in THREE MONTHS! This may be our longest tenure apart since we lived across the Atlantic from each other. And booooy do we have plans! By plans, I mean the romantic may have sent me a text with her weekend requirements: wine and cheese. Done and done. Look, we don’t ever set out to be completely irresponsible, but more often than not, our plans take a turn for the lazy pretty early on (see:…
