rtw rookie: the reveal

theromanticBack in November, we introduced a new feature called RTW Rookie. Over the past few months, our mystery man has detailed his plans of an upcoming five month trip around the world, using this site as his only real outlet until he quit his job.

So far, he’s detailed his plans to visit Hawaii, Fiji, and New Zealand, but we’re taking a break from this regularly scheduled programming for an announcement:

RTW Rookie officially gave his job notice on Friday, and is now able to reveal himself.

Are you ready?

Without further ado, RTW Rookie is…

THE HUBS!

Which, in case you need to catch up, means that in less than two weeks, this duo is off to see the world (or at least a pretty big part of it):

Yes, it’s true. Starting March 1st, the hubs and I will begin a five month journey to parts of Hawaii, Oceania, Southeast Asia, and 10 countries across Europe. We’ve been planning like crazy, and keeping it a secret about 80% of the time. Meaning… I am terrible at keeping my own secrets, so all of our friends and close family has known for months, but the hubs had to keep it hush hush from his company. This was easy in the real world since we didn’t have much of an overlap, but I was BANNED from detailing our plans around here.

(I’m still debating whether or not this was the hubs’s way of sneaking in a few guest posts, but I’ll let it slide).

It’s been an incredibly exciting, stressful, overwhelming, and emotional few months of planning, and I still can’t wrap my brain around the fact that in 12 days, we’ll be kicking off our trip in Hawaii. The hubs will be back with more posts detailing the rest of our plans, because apparently someone fancies himself to be a blogger-in-training, and I’m thrilled to be able to reveal all the logistics… namely the big three:

  • Why five months?
  • What about our jobs?
  • What are we doing after our trip ends in July?

We’ll get to all of this and more, but first I have to say that, like most of our travels, this trip isn’t following the typical RTW trajectory. In true Lazy Travelers fashion, we’ll be practicing our usual high-low mix of travel planning–and one company that’s helping us achieve this is HostelBookers.com.

Though we won’t be staying in hostels our entire trip, HostelBookers has generously offered to sponsor a few of our stays in New Zealand and Singapore. I’m still waiting for all of the details, but I do know that this sponsorship will allow for us to mix in a few alternatives, and we’ll be staying everywhere from luxury hotels to apartments to a campervan. Yes, for real. Yes, I’m excited.

Stay tuned for more, because I have SO many things to share before we depart.

xo,

your rtw rookies in training: the romantic & the hubs

P.S. Remember the time I had enough trouble fitting my life into a backpack for one week and now I have to do it for 20 weeks? GOOD TIMES.

The Lazy Travelers are two transatlantic best friends who have mastered the art of exploring a new city. Though Ashley is based in London and Carolyn is in Philadelphia, we'll use any excuse to reunite around the world. We’re professional bar hoppers, pub crawlers, and food testers, and you’ll never see us zipping around, checking things off a list of “must-sees.”
