photo essay: christmas in switzerland & dublin
Along with temporarily satisfying our wanderlust, our trip to Switzerland & Ireland got us SERIOUSLY in the holiday spirit.
There were trees.
There were Christmas Markets.
There was Santa.
There were snowy rooftops.
There was a live nativity.
And there were more Christmas markets.
There were lights in the trees.
And there were birds in the trees, too.
And, of course, we can’t forget the perfectly decorated pubs.
Really, it’s no wonder that we came back post-trip feeling like the Ghosts of Christmas Past.
Happy Christmas Eve!

a thanksgiving ode to bucks county
Ahhh, hello again, travelers! The annual turkey binge has come and gone once more, and we’re already back in Manhattan… feeling about 30 lbs. heavier, naturally.
Alas, our brains are working about as well as our metabolism, so we bring you:
Thanksgiving in Bucks County: A Photo Essay
As all good weekend roadtrips do, ours kicked off with a ton of traffic in the Lincoln Tunnel…
But all was right once we were home, where there was snuggling on the couch pretty much every time we weren’t eating.
There were sunsets that only Bucks County can offer up.
There were pre-Thanksgiving reunions at Revivals (where THIS happened… yeah, you’re gonna wanna click that) and post-Thanksgiving dinner outings at the Freight House in Doylestown.
And, at the end of it all, there was the official transition into Christmas, complete with the Christmas lights on display in Peddler’s Village.
And now? We count down the days to our first trip abroad together as the lazy travelers!
10 DAYS!

the romantic’s year full of thanks
This weekend brought the first of many Thanksgiving dinners, and it was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. There was wine and food and shots that you had to take without using your hands and a passed out hostess on the couch (yes, yours truly).
As it’s the reason for the season, I’ve been looking back on 2012 and feeling pretty grateful–and very, very lucky. SO, what better way to give my thanks than via blog post?
This year, I’m grateful for…
The New York Giants
HA, I know, right? So unexpected. But, if you recall, these guys earned themselves a trip to the Super Bowl in February, thus earning ME an extra day in Paris. There’s nothing like a winter escape to Paris, and I can now tell you, there’s nothing like watching American football in an Irish-themed pub in Paris at 3 AM with three men from Mexico and two drunk 19 year old Parisians with no idea how the rules work (we got along swimmingly).
The best travel partners a girl could have.
I don’t know how it happened, but I seriously lucked out in the travel buddy department. What did I do to get so many partners in crime?
There’s this girl:
This guy:
And these two:
That is some serious compatibility right there.
Booze cruises
I’m not sure why it took me 26 years to go on a proper booze cruise, but it did. Well, unless you count the Staten Island Ferry… which, come to think of it, you totally should. Either way, shame on me, but good on you, 2012, for adding TWO booze cruises into the mix this year. There was the infamous Costa Rican boat full of mammaries, and then there was this:
Yes, a 90′s themed booze cruise around Manhattan featuring a band called “Uncle Jesse.” Um, what?!? Really, I knew it would be perfection when I saw their logo:
GUYS. Hair icons! It’s like they’re the Official Band of The Lazy Travelers or something. (Also, if you’re in New York on December 14th, you can re-live the 90′s at Sullivan Hall. Do it to it).
Poutine.
Because duh.
Our fellow bloggers.
When we started this, it wasn’t even on our radar that we would get to meet so many amazing people. We also didn’t realize how awkward it would be to tell our friends and family that we had plans with people we met on Twitter. But, whatever, back to the new friends:
We’ve had drinks with Stars on the Ceiling and Amy Hit the Atmosphere
Brunch with Mrs O. Around the World, Kelley Ferro, Foodie International, Butterfly Diary (and baby!), Stay Adventurous, The World Wanderer, and Walks of Italy
And a rodeo with Leah Travels, Lola Travels, and I Live to Travel!
Soo basically, I’m one lucky lady–and this list is just the tip of the iceberg.

Happy day-after-Christmas, loves! Hope everyone’s holiday was merry and bright, and you all gained as much weight as we did so we don’t have to be the only ones feeling guilty. It’s fine, we can make New Year’s resolutions soon and fool ourselves into thinking next year will be different and we’ll keep them.

a few of my favorite things: salzburg edition
You know what has always puzzled me? Why ”Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music is considered Christmas music. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there isn’t one mention of Christmas in that movie. And I doubt that I’m wrong, because I’ve watched The Sound of Music upwards of 200 times.
Maybe its the mention of crisp apple struedel. That seems somewhat holiday-ish. Doorbells and sleigh bells, sure, but schnitzel with noodle? I’m just not buying it.
It took an actual winter trip to Salzburg, Austria for me to see why the setting of The Sound of Music invokes the image of Christmas. On a snowy February Sunday, almost the entire city was completely deserted. My friend and I trekked up to see the famous Sound of Music Abbey (I’m sure there’s a real name for the Abbey but I didn’t take the time to learn it. My brain was too full of song lyrics and scenes from the movie!). The view from the top of the mountain looked the scene from the inside of a snowglobe.
As I looked out onto the snow-covered city, I got it! Brown paper packages tied up with string…
Salzburg was BUILT for Christmas-time. And the makers of The Sound of Music must have known this. Why else would the movie’s anthem be included on Christmas music compilation albums around the world??
And so, as Christmas draws near, I present to you, a few of my favorite things (pictures) from Salzburg, Austria.
Merry Merry,

a very upper east side thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! In honor of the holiday (and to give a glimpse of true Thanksgiving gluttony to all our non-American readers), we’ve put together a little photo essay.
This past Saturday, we achieved the unimaginable. The Romantic and the Hubs hosted a Thanksgiving feast for 12 in their Upper East Side apartment. A full-on sit down meal complete with a 20lb turkey, stuffing, casseroles, mac and cheese, about four variations of potatoes, and a spread of desserts. Applaud here.
Today we sit down for round two of the Thanksgiving festivities. Happy carbo-loading!
