a perfect day at the jersey shore
A few weeks ago, I read an article about choosing the perfect vacation for your zodiac sign, and I was shocked to see Scorpios, such as myself, feel the most at home near the water. This seriously, seriously blew my mind.
As we like to say around here, we’re pretty happily self-proclaimed city girls, so most of our dream vacations (and real vacations) include flitting around some metropolitan area or another. I’ve never really factored water into the equation. To be honest, swimming in any natural body of water gives me a serious case of the willies. I don’t think I’ve gone further than ankle deep in any ocean in about four years, and swimming in lakes or anything of the sort is strictly forbidden. But, I must admit, being near the water has a way of soothing me that I never really realized until reading this article.
This past Memorial Day, I got to test the accuracy of my vacation astrology. I spent three blissful days on the Jersey Shore, soaking up the sun and getting as close to the water as my phobia(s) would allow. I’m happy to report, it was pretty perfect. However, as nice as it was to wake up the sounds of the waves, there are a few other elements besides water that go into the perfect day at the beach.
A few other musts:
#1. Fresh Air
I know this seems like a given, but I feel like it has to be said. A perfect day at the Jersey Shore means spending as much time as possible outside. Coffee in the morning? Outside. After-beach drinks? Outside. Shower? Duuuh, the best outside.
#2. Ice Cream
Whenever I’m at or near any beach, my ice cream cravings go into overdrive. Maybe its reminiscent of childhood vacations, but a night down the shore without ice cream just doesn’t feel right.
#3. Boats
Last year, my family’s house in Avalon was surrounded by the most beautiful boats I’ve ever seen. One day, when I’m astoundingly wealthy, I plan on buying myself a boat and docking it at the Jersey Shore.
#4. Beer
Um, duh.
Have a great weekend, by land or by sea!

See what going to Springer’s (Stone Harbor) each evening will cause. You are the second generation! xo

i blame springers for my ice cream addiction! you spoiled me too much when i was little! xoxo

I’m a water sign who knows I can’t live without the sea or at least a big lake or river. Funnily enough I’m also quite leary of actually being in it. “On” it, I can do, otherwise it’s sound and sight.

i actually jumped into a lake this weekend and didn’t have a panic attack, as expected! maybe i’m coming around…xo, the wino

I so like your thinking! Can I swap the beer for a caipirinha?
the lazy travelers
all alcoholic beverages are allowed, of course!
mrsoaroundtheworld
Excellent 🙂 the day will be pretty perfect!

Wow I’m totally going to check out what type of holiday a Taurus should take after reading this – the ice-cream looks yummy too!

that particular ice cream was delish. I’m pretty much an expert.

As a city gal myself, I too sometimes like to get away and spend some time by the water or hike. Glad you had a good time. 🙂

thanks! its always refreshing to take a breather from the city!

I like your version of the Jersey Shore better than the MTV version. Nice!
The World Wanderer
Agreed!
the lazy travelers
second that! 🙂

I agree with all of these, especially ice cream and having everything outdoors. This is my last week of school, so this post really put me in the mood for summer. Thanks! 🙂
the lazy travelers
congrats on the end of school. we highly encourage fresh air, ice cream, boats, and beer to celebrate!
The World Wanderer
Oh, don’t worry, there will be plenty of that!

It stinks that the actual Jersey Shore is getting such a bad reputation because of that mindless show on MTV. Thanks for showing us that there’s more to it than guidos and GTL, not to mention there’s ICE CREAM.

no vacation is a real vacation without ice cream, in my opinion.

You had me at ice cream! I am not a beach person for the most part. I do get in the water but I do think about what may be down there somewhere lurking… But I do love the OCEAN. I grew up in an island and for the last 7 yrs there, I could see the ocean even if at a distance. The sea breeze is my favorite part… Thanks for making me think of all this!

its so nice to be BY the ocean, even if i cant muster up enough courage to get in it!

this is the picture of summertime – my favorite time. budweiser couldn’t be more american too! sip and say ahh, people. sip and say ahhh.

I was talking to Mike of Europe Up Close at TBEX. He’s from the Jersey Shore and was telling me how much he detests the show because so much of the shore isn’t like that at all. This further reinforces that the beach isn’t all about GTL.
the lazy travelers
ive been going to the jersey shore my entire life, and my jersey shore does not resemble the MTV portrayal at all. its sad that it gets such a bad rep!
Traveling Ted
I think those factors make for an ideal vacation whether on the Jersey Shore or anywhere around the world.

amen.

*fist pump!* Sorry.. you know I had to. LOL. Your version sounds way better though. More up my alley. 😀
