travel announcement: going back back to cali cali
If you haven’t heard, we’ve been experiencing arctic temps in Philly this past weekend. With snow falling outside my window as I type, I can’t think of a better time for this travel announcement. That’s right, I’m making a return trip to a place I’ve recently fallen in love with. Yes, correct, I’m going back back to Cali Cali… Los Angeles and Orange County, CA, here I come! Here’s the catch: it’s a work trip. This means the majority (read: almost all) will be scheduled with work events. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy the sunny, warm weather and…

expat life // an american pregnancy in london
While I’ve shared plenty about my travel experiences while pregnant, I haven’t written too much about my actual pregnancy. Mainly because, well, this is a travel blog, and pregnancy isn’t particularly travel-related. My experiences with pregnancy in London, however, has been greatly influenced by my life as an American expat. Pregnancy, especially for first-timers, is already a learning experience. Doing it in a new country — with different resources and without the same support network you’d have at home — adds a whole new layer of “WTF am I DOING?” SO, with fellow Americans in mind, I thought maybe a…

foodie break: brunch at the hamilton in dc
Though I can hardly believe it, January 31st marked one year since Sean and I tied the knot. The past twelve months rushed by in chaotic fashion. We knew we wanted to spend our anniversary relaxing and, ideally, away from home. We debated our nearby options, packed up the car, and headed two hours south. A weekend of exploring, bar hopping, and brunching at the Hamilton in DC was in order. As you may know, I went to college in the District and lived there again briefly after graduating. This meant we had zero things that we needed or wanted…

lucerne for the (lazy) first-timer
After we kicked off our grand girls getaway in Geneva, we were off to spend the next few days après-sking in Verbier and pretzel-eating in Bern. As an additional stop, we were also lucky to visit Lucerne. For most of our trip, I was playing tour guide for my Mom and Mari. This was because I’ve been fortunate enough to visit the first three stops on our itinerary before. I was definitely happy to revisit some of my favorite Swiss cities. But we also wanted to add at least one place into our itinerary that was new for all of…

foodie break // 2016’s best restaurants in notting hill
Next month, Jeff and I will mark a year and a half of living in London. This by no means makes us an expert in, well, anything, but we have spent a fair amount of our time here eating. And eating and eating. In fact, we’ve spent the last 18 months on a tear through basically all of the restaurants in Notting Hill. An important fact: pregnancy kept me from drinking for about 50% of our UK expat life. This means that trying new restaurants, especially for brunch and lunch, has become one of our favorite weekend date activities. Our…
