#lteuropa bucket list takedown: austrian wine country

    September 8, 2013 /

We had high hopes for Austrian wine country. But on the day we tackled this bucket list item, it was cold and rainy, like most of the days we spent in Vienna. In spite of the gray skies, we bundled up (read: bought sweatshirts en route and wore sneakers because they were the warmest footwear option we had) and made our way from the Inner Stadt to Kahlenberg, a mountain located in the 19th district of Vienna that’s speckled with small vineyards along its hills. Turns out, touring Vienna’s vineyards really does work better on a day that it’s not…

    style spotter: empress sisi

    September 4, 2013 /

Whilst in Vienna, we began to fancy ourselves as royalty. Empresses, to be exact. And we have one girl to thank: Empress Sisi. You see, after our quick city tour with Marieta on our strudel-making day, we vowed we would return to the Imperial Apartments of the Imperial Palace during our time in Vienna. The Palace was absolutely gorgeous from the outside, and the signage for the Sisi Museum had us intrigued. As soon as we entered the exhibit, our suspicions were confirmed: we are descendants of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. (Ok, so full disclosure: the wino spent most of…

#lteuropa bucket list takedown: bottoms up

    September 1, 2013 /

We’re as shocked as you are that it took us this long to address one of our best bucket list items: throw back at a pint at a traditional Viennese beer hall. What’s less shocking? We checkity check check checked this one almost immediately. And then again. Many times over: Naturally, it was also a learning experience. And so, here is how you do beer in Vienna: Cheers of choice // A hearty “PROST!” complete with eye contact all the way through your first sip. Should you ignore this important rule of imbibing in Austria, you will be cursed with seven…

radisson blu carlton: a tale of two rooms

    August 28, 2013 /

With only one night in Bratislava, we wanted to make sure our hotel selection was top notch. We went back and forth on whether we should just hightail it to Vienna. It didn’t take much research to find the Radisson Blu Carlton, however. It took even less time to become completely charmed with the idea of staying there. We were pretty into its central location, the reasonably priced rooms, and a facade that looked like this: Photo courtesy of the Radisson Blu Carlton Here’s the catch: from the minute we stepped in to the Radisson lobby, our experiences were… very…

Like I mentioned before, despite my best efforts, I ended up packing pretty poorly for my #LTeuropa adventure. In Budapest, I was kicking myself for not packing any articles of clothing that could stand up to the inferno-like temperatures. By the time we reached Bratislava on our third day, the temperature had cooled slightly, so I thought for sure I could throw together an appropriate outfit with what I had packed. Wrong, of course. Looking back on our time in the Slovakian capital, I can’t help but daydream about all of the things I wish I had packed– and what…
