six lessons i’ve learned as an english speaking expat
Well, bonjour and hello! First thing’s first, let’s get this out of the way right off the bat: my French is très rusty. I tried! I got a tutor and was going to class twice a week and being a good little Francophile, and yet, I am still only able to speak in the present. WTF is with passé composé, huh? Then, we went on all these trips to English-speaking places and my accent just never got better and Frenchies continue to switch to English almost automatically, or WORSE, they carry on in French while I silently panic and my…

#LTfrancais: living the parisien life in saint-germain-des-prés
You know that travel quote about how no one realizes how beautiful travel is until he gets home and mashes his face into his old, familiar pillow? …Or something like that? Ugh, hold on, it’s all over Pinterest… Yeah, that one. It’s, like, the Joni Mitchell/Dorothy Gale of travel quotes (it’s also courtesy of Lin Yutang in case you collect quotes or something) (nerd). Anyway, you don’t know what you got til it’s gone, there’s no place like home, we get it. paris for a day: the first-timer’s guide
When it comes to Paris, the romantic and I are no rookies. As our favorite city, we’ve both been there more times than we can count– and with good reason. Who can resist Paris? My fiance (!!!), on the other hand, had never stepped foot in the City of Lights. A true, blue Parisian first-timer! Naturally, this meant there was a A LOT I wanted him to see during #LTfrancais. Sadly, our trip was only three days long, and we had only one of those in my beloved Paris. Luckily, his bucket list was short: eat a baguette with every…

the emotional stages of going on a short trip, as told in GIFs
The saddest, most emotional news: #LTfrancais has come and gone. It wasn’t our shortest international reunion (that prize goes to our twenty-four-hour rendezvous in London back in 2008), but the three days we spent together in France certainly wasn’t long enough. In 72 hours, we bounced around Paris, visited FOUR chateaux, drank approximately 15 bottles of wine, AND the wino even got engaged! BEST. TRIP. EVER. And now… now we’re back to our normal everyday routines, and truth be told, it’s making us just plain miserable. Ohhh the rollercoaster of emotions felt in only a few days time. How’s a…

Our full itinerary from five months on the road. We started in NYC, moved west, and learned... we're not very good at being traditional long-term travelers. At all.
