we want to go with oh to vienna!

    November 15, 2012 /

We’re still three weeks away from our trip to Switzerland and Ireland, and well, well, well, wouldn’t you know? We’re already thinking about what could be next. Spoiler alert: we currently have our sights set on Vienna. We’re addicted! Lucky for us, it has come to our attention that the end of our upcoming trip coincides perfectly with Go with Oh’s Spring 2013 Blogger Contest! Chances are, if you’ve followed The Lazy Travelers long enough, you know the Go with Oh deal. A winning blog post results in one month of traveling around Europe, staying in up to four Go with…

why knowing another language makes you the most attractive person in the room (and other petite lessons)

    October 10, 2012 /

Ok, here’s a secret. I speak another language. Oui, oui, I speak French. Poorly, and with an accent that sounds British depending on how many glasses of wine I have. But the truth is, I’ve been parlez-ing the francais for a pretty decent amount of years. I struggled in high school (conjugating verbs is like, really hard), and I took French an embarrassing amount of semesters in college. But finally, when I moved abroad during my junior year, I reached a certain level of fluency. This was mostly due to my living with Madame, my 75-year old landlord who didn’t…

    wanderlust cure: new york edition

    September 25, 2012 /

Though we can’t complain that we’re finally reunited in New York City, there is one minor downside: our wanderlust is bordering on out of control. We can’t help it! It seems like every time we’re together, we end up pining over the countless cities where we’d rather be. You know, just drinking wine and catching bits and pieces of a foreign tongue. And what, exactly, is the wanderlust cure for such a desire?! Though the majority of New York speaks English (albeit with some interesting accents), we’re lucky! When our need for cultural submersion reaches its boiling point, we can escape…

the wino’s 2013 dream itinerary: down under

    July 31, 2012 /

After a whirlwind weekend in New York (more to come on that later), the travel bug is biting yet again. And hard. My mind is chock full of dream itinerary after dream itinerary, and I’m finding it hard to narrow it down to just one locale. After much deliberation (one full glass of wine to be exact), I’m pretttttty sure I’ve settled on Australia. Why? Mainly because my foreign language skills are rapidly depleting and they speak English in Australia, and also a little bit because the whole baby/dingo dilemma worked itself out, making me a little nostalgic for the outback.…

    olympic dining: london 2012

    July 16, 2012 /

The hubs always says that his favorite part of traveling to countries where he doesn’t speak the language is trying to order off of the menu without sounding like an idiot. This is why, every once in awhile, we like to sprinkle our travels with English-speaking countries–you know, to make the hubs feel better. After hitting Belgium and The Netherlands last year, our stop in England was especially key (the hubs was not so great at Dutch). If you or your travel companion feel similarly and want to brush up on your English-speaking skills, Kaplan has a few schools that…
