#LTsouthafrica: on safari with sabi sabi
The morning after our day with the Newkidz on the Block, Hands Up Holidays, we woke up bright dark and early. Yes, correct: we woke up before the sun, on vacation, the morning after a full day of manual labor. As you can probably guess, this is NOT our norm. But if anything can get us up before dawn, it’s the promise of our first safari with Sabi Sabi. Yes, this was it! This was the day! After one van ride, two flights (grumble), and one badass jeep excursion, it was all coming true. We would arrive at an oasis…

2 days of voluntourism with hands up holidays & new kidz on the block
Though we did our fair share of the required sightseeing, wine drinking and animal obsessing while in South Africa, there was one big reason we finally tackled this long-time dream destination of ours. For years, we’ve toyed with exploring Africa together. We knew that when we finally did, wherever we went, we wanted to incorporate volunteering into our experience. Including 2 days of voluntourism with Hands Up Holidays was a no-brainer. We had tossed around tons of possible itineraries before #LTsouthafrica came to be, and when we met Christopher Hill, it felt like a sign. Chris is the founder of a…

style spotter: luxury safari
In March, we were in an extremely fortunate situation. We had to ask ourselves the ultimate question. What in the world does a girl wear on a luxury safari?? What exactly do we wear on our feet to trek through the South African bush? What kind of pants will keep us cool in the sun while keeping mosquitos away? Are there any colors that startle lions?? In the weeks leading up to our trip to South Africa, we joked about outfitting ourselves in cargo khaki, hiking boots, and bucket hats. When the time came, we opted for utilitarian over style. We each…

exploring cape town // round 2
If you don’t mind, I’m going to go out of order for a second and skip ahead to my last two days of #LTsouthafrica. I just feel like we’re on a roll with the love for exploring Cape Town, so why stop now?! Unfortunately for everyone (but mainly me, because I’m writing this post, so I’m allowed to make it all about me), the wino had to depart our grand African adventure a few days early. We said our teary goodbyes in Sabi Sabi. After two amazing days on safari, I returned to Cape Town with Ana and her sister…

36 hours on cape town’s v&a waterfront
After a full day of exploring the coast, our Hands Up Holidays tour guide, Janise, dropped us on Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. We spent the next two days of our #LTSouthAfrica adventure exploring. Having just been scared away by the touristy crowds and noisy attractions of Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco a few weeks earlier, we were wary of staying so close to the V&A. (V&A is short for Victoria & Albert, as any Londoner already knows). After 36 hours and two amazingly delicious dinners, we have to say, we’re fans. Where to sleep // If you remember our original…
