the lazy girls’ guide to exploring south africa’s western cape: part 2

    June 15, 2015 /

Though we were sad to say goodbye to  the wine region and the team at La Clé des Montagnes, we felt rejuvenated as we started our second day. Next on the itinerary? Exploring South Africa’s Western Cape with Hands up Holidays. We were excited to spend day 2 with our guide, Janise, and dedicate our time to the coast. We headed straight for Cape Peninsula, located just south of Cape Town. Much of the Peninsula is part of Table Mountain National Park. It’s an incredibly scenic coastal drive, virtually untouched by commercial and residential development. Occasionally, we’d drive through a…

    #LTselects: la clé des montagnes

    June 10, 2015 /

We’ve found our South African spirit animal, and it goes by the name of La Clé des Montagnes. The latest induction to our #LTselects series, this boutique hotel in South African wine country was most certainly love at first sight. Our first day of sightseeing in the Western Cape came to end in the town of Franschhoek, where our Hands Up Holidays guide, Janise, dropped us off at our accommodations for the evening: La Clé des Montagnes, a small collection of villas situated on a private estate. So, how much do we love La Clé des Montagnes? Let us count…

the lazy girls’ guide to exploring south africa’s western cape: part 1

    June 9, 2015 /

We hate to make excuses, but we’re so happy to say we’re here to finally start writing about our time in South Africa. But before we dive into our time exploring South Africa’s Western Cape, we want to offer a little apology. We’re sincerely sorry for the delay! If you’re curious why we’ve taken so long to start writing about our #LTsouthafrica trip, we do have two very legitimate reasons: 1. Our lives have been a bit topsy turvy the past few weeks… read: very, very busy. 2. More importantly, every time we think back on our week in South…

#LTsouthafrica: an afternoon in cape town with flytographer

    May 7, 2015 /

It’s very, very hard to believe that it’s been over a month since we were in South Africa with Hands Up Holidays. Like all incredible experiences, it somehow feels like it was both yesterday and a million years ago. Now that we’ve wrapped up our #LTsf recaps, we’re finally ready to dive into our South Africa trip, head first. Starting, of course, with our afternoon in Cape Town with Flytographer. Our itinerary started and ended in Cape Town, and though our Flytographer photoshoot fell somewhere in the middle, it somehow feels like a fitting place to start. After an incredible…

jetsetters: michael & hilda of newkidz on the block

    April 8, 2015 /

The absolute best part of our recent trip to South Africa with Hands Up Holidays was the work we did with local organization Newkidz on the Block. For two rewarding days, we worked alongside two of Newkidz’ co-founders, Hilda and Michael de Beer. Together, we renovated four daycare centers. It was an honor to aide their mission to improve the lives of some of South Africa’s most disadvantaged children. We can say wholeheartedly that Hilda and Michael are two of the most impressive, caring, and passionate people we have ever met. We could sing their praises for days! Honestly, we…
