three days in belgrade: or, how we fell in love with eastern europe

    October 22, 2013 /

Serbia wasn’t on our original RTW itins. Instead, post-Thailand, we were supposed to spend ten days in Turkey, exploring the streets of Istanbul and flying in hot air balloons over Cappadocia.  Then, this happened. We spent a lot of time debating where to go instead. If you read that post (or the title to this one…) you can already guess where we headed. But our quick layover in Doha had us briefly considering a stop in the Middle East–we just didn’t have enough time to research where, exactly. Though we didn’t exit the airport in Qatar this time, we did…

six days in the kingdom of cambodia

    October 10, 2013 /

We split our six days in Cambodia between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and—surprise, surprise—we were the laziest of lazy travelers. I mean, truly. Thanks to the use of SPG points at the Le Meridien Siem Reap, we had room in the budget for a proper splurge at the Plantation in Phnom Penh. It just might rank as one of my very favorite hotels of our trip. And, given our record, this is an impressive feat. It was so, so hot in Cambodia. This means we spent far more time at the hotel pools than I usually deem appropriate. After our whistle-stop…

    london, baby! (+ travel announcement!)

    September 29, 2013 /

This summer, the hubs and I hit up London for our third time together, and agreed that each time we go… we kinda love the city more than the last. So, you can probably guess based on the title: I have a travel announcement or two to make! I’m definitely jinxing myself here. But we’ve never really had the traditionally terrible weather that London is so known for! And this last time? Well, the city was on a perfect weather HIGH. Because our last stint was so perfect, when I found out about WTM in November, I pretty much jumped at the…

germany: more than just beer steins & lederhosen!

    September 26, 2013 /

While the start of autumn in the states means pumpkin spiced lattes and the reintroduction of oxblood & aubergine into every girl’s wardrobe, it’s a little bit different in Europe. In Europe, it means one thing: Oktoberfest. I’ve seen no shortage of posts going around on how to make the most out of your time in the tents and things not to miss in Munich (you know, aside from all of the beer), but what about your plans for before and after you binge drink the day (and night) (and probably day again) away? Explore more of Germany! Though Berlin…

10 days in vietnam // vietnam from top to bottom

    September 23, 2013 /

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Before our RTW, Southeast Asia had never been at the top of my list — let alone a full 10 days in Vietnam. Pretty much all of South America and most of Africa trumped my desire to head toward the backpackers’ holy land. It’s not that I NEVER wanted to go! I just had a laundry list of places I’d rather see first. Obviously, SEA ultimately finagled its way into our five month plan. As soon as we settled on our itinerary, I suddenly realized just how much I want to…
