making our way to australia’s red centre
After Melbourne and Phillip Island and Melbourne again, the hubs and I high-tailed it for Australia’s Great Ocean Road. To be honest, I was sick as a dog, and sidebar: why is that a saying? So even though the Great Ocean Road was beautiful, it wasn’t enjoyable for me and my runny nose. I spent most of the time napping, with the hubs dutifully waking me for anything photo-worthy. At the end of the Great Ocean Road came Adelaide, which was mostly spent recouping in one of our favorite AirBnb experiences to date and planning our next leg: the Outback. Way…

city escapes: ditching melbourne for phillip island
Though we loved Melbourne with all our little hearts, we started to feel like a roadtrip out of town wouldn’t be a bad use of time. The cafes and bars were draining our wallets, and a little fresh air was starting to sound good. Enter: a mini roadtrip to Phillip Island. (God, what did camping in New Zealand DO to us city folk?!) And so it was decided: near the end of our time in Melbourne, we hopped in our cute little Europcar day rental, and made our way toward the island. Turns out, this was an amazing idea because Phillip…

singapore: the gateway drug
Singapore was our very first impression of Southeast Asia. After our time in NZ and Australia, our bones were aching for some sweltering heat and vitamin D, and Singapore more than delivered–in fact, on our first quick walk from the MRT to our hostel, we were sweating through our clothes in about five minutes. At 5 AM. Guys, it was amazing. I was on the fence about SEA from the very beginning. It was our first time venturing to this part of the world, and though I was excited to be out of my comfort zone, I was unsure of…

sitting pretty: ten days in melbourne
As you may recall, the hubs and I treated our ten days Melbourne as a bit of a home base during our month in Australia. We didn’t stay in the same place the entire time, mind you. We chose to split our nights between the Westin Melbourne (ahthankyou, Starpoints) and an AirBnb apartment share. But staying put for an extended period was exceptionally nice after so much hopping around in New Zealand. Obviously, even though we planned to slow down in Melbourne, we didn’t really stay sedentary for long. Instead, we spent ten days trying to enjoy all the city…

style spotter: sydney style, day & night
Throughout our RTW, most of the things I missed revolved around food: pizza, bagels, Shake Shack… you know, the usual. Material stuff, on the other hand, wasn’t bothering me. I adjusted to living out of a backpack pretty quickly, and, surprisingly enough, I didn’t miss having a diverse wardrobe the way I had expected. Until, of course, we got to Australia, and my Sydney style was NOT up to snuff. For the first three weeks, it was easy: beach hopping around Hawaii and Fiji doesn’t require much. Then, month two kicked off in New Zealand, and between the camping and…
