four days in switzerland: an ode to the swiss rail

    December 16, 2012 /

Back in October when we booked our trip on an OMG-I-NEED-A-BREAK-FROM-WORK whim, we didn’t have much of a plan. Shocking, right? A mutual return to Paris was very tempting, and, quite honestly, almost won. But we looked at a long list of cities and finally settled on Geneva. Armed with a plan to explore the surrounding region, we couldn’t wait to visit Switzerland — a country that was new to both of us. And, best of all, one we would be able to see a TON of thanks to the famous Swiss Rail. We had no idea just how much…

sneak peek: one day in bern

    December 14, 2012 /

Hands down, the best surprise of our Swiss adventures was our  (unexpected!) one day in Bern. HANDS DOWN. After our first night out in Geneva, we decided to use our Swiss Passes for a last-minute Sunday day trip. We toyed with a few options (Chamonix! Lucerne! Interlaken!), but after running our ideas across a few people we met along the way, we eventually settled on Bern. We’ll get to all the reasons why our Swiss Passes are so near and dear to our hearts, but being able to make day trip decisions on a whim played a pretty big role…

sneak peek: a mini tour of geneva

    December 13, 2012 /

Geneva was supposed to be the last stop on a magical first-time trek through Switzerland, though our plans changed, natch. We used our Swiss Passes to the best of their little abilities, and scrapped a daytime tour of Geneva on Sunday. We opted, instead, for a mini trip to Bern (WORTH IT). In the end, we spent our weekend nights in Geneva… trying to figure out exactly just what Fête de l’Escalade was. We’re going to have to address that at a later date. Partially because we’re… still not sure. Unexpectedly, our two nights out in Geneva probably ended up…

sneak peek: the medieval city of lausanne

    December 13, 2012 /

We’re still trying to wrap our minds around the fact that a week ago we left for Switzerland & Ireland. Yesterday we were drinking pints in Dublin! And today we’re… well, not. And in between, we used our Swiss Passes and fell in full-blown love with the charming city of Geneva, the adorable village of Bern, and the medieval city of Lausanne. Being back in New York has never been so miserable! But never fear! We think we have a cure: booze, yes, but also regaling you with tales from our adventure abroad, courtesy of this little blog. While we…

    switzerland fail: #LTSwissTips

    December 12, 2012 /

Hello our fellow travelers. We’re sad to say that it’s officially the last day of our trip. We’re currently lounging in the Dublin Airport, trying to figure out a way to sneak onto a flight that isn’t headed back to New York. Paris, maybe? Munich? Barcelona or Florence? Back to Geneva to fix our big Switzerland fail?! Yeah, more on that in a second. As you can probably guess, this past week was everything we expected of our adventure abroad and more… except for the fact that it went way, way, way too fast. There was wine & raclette &…
