    sneak peek: the emerald isle

    April 30, 2014 /

On the hubs’s first — and up until now, only — trip to Ireland, we were on a bit of a time crunch. My previous stint in Dublin gave me knowledge enough to run him from Trinity College down Dame St. to Temple Bar for a pint of Guinness and a pot of stew, then onto The Brazen Head for exactly one rendition of  “Dirty Old Town” before we had to get back to the airport for our flight back home to NYC. Fast forward nearly four years later, and I’m on my fourth trip to the Emerald Isle. Still,…

the lazy travelers take europe: the wino’s irish & swiss highlights

    January 10, 2013 /

I’ve been looking forward to writing this post for a while. but now that I sit down to do it, I’m getting majorly overwhelmed by all of the wonderful things we got to see and do (and eat and drink) on our European adventure. Short of posting my journal verbatim, it’s hard to capture everything I loved about our time in Switzerland and Ireland. And no offense guys, but I don’t really want you reading my journal. So alas, you’ll have to settle for my Irish and Swiss highlights. After careful consideration, this is what I’ve come up with: Bern…

the lazy travelers take europe: the romantic’s highlights

    January 7, 2013 /

It’s still hard to believe that less than one month ago, the wino and I were frolicking through the snowy streets of Switzerland, trying to pinpoint our next meal drink. Unsurprisingly, we’ve spent the better part of the past month regaling our friends with stories from the good ol’ days. We’re those girls, telling anyone who complains about New York, “it’s nothing compared to Switzerland.” Yeah, we’ve been really popular ever since we returned. As with any good getaway, when I think back to our weeklong adventure, it’s all a big blur of snow, cheese, wine, and French accents. But…

two days in dublin: the perfect layover city

    December 27, 2012 /

When we originally booked our trip to Geneva, we couldn’t help but notice that our return flight included a four hour layover in Dublin. We immediately began scheming how to make the most of our brief layover… when we realized: there was a very real possibility that we wouldn’t make it back onto our return flight to New York. Not because the airport isn’t easily accessible to the city center–the complete opposite, actually–but because we knew we couldn’t part with one of our favorite cities after such a short reunion. Luckily, our friends at Aer Lingus stepped in and offered…

hostels & hotels & chalets, oh MY!

    December 19, 2012 /

When we started planning our Swiss adventure, we had big dreams of snow-covered chalets and opulent apartments overlooking Lake Geneva. Because our itinerary had us going to a different city almost daily, we knew we would wind up covering all the accommodation bases. It wasn’t until we looked at our lodging options on paper that we realized: over the course of seven days, we stayed in four very different types of accommodations in each hub of our trip. Boutique Hotel: Hotel Ermitage Verbier Tourism graciously arranged for our first night’s stay, and this couldn’t have been a more perfect way to…
