weekend in philadelphia
One year ago yesterday, I woke up a married lady, said goodbye to our friends and family who came to celebrate with us, shoved my face with leftover wedding cake (aka the only thing I ate in 24 hours), and took off for JFK, hand-in-hand with my new hubs. We had a whirlwind 15 day honeymoon in Cairo, Venice, Cinque Terre, Florence, and Rome (with a few random stops in between), and it’s hard to believe that we’re already moving into not-quite-newlywed status. So this weekend, we traded one city for another and celebrated. We checked into our room at…

playing tourist in our hometown
Ahhhh Friday. Never have we been so happy to see you. We’re planning to be back to a normal posting schedule next week after a nice relaxing weekend. The wino is spending her next few days in Bucks County celebrating her brother’s graduation and enjoying the simple life, while hubs and I are off for a little weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary! So where are we headed? The city of love & romance & all things beautiful! Philadelphia! … no? Not the reputation our hometown has? In reality, we’re going because we were married in Philadelphia one year ago…

And I don’t mean the Dutch farmlands of Pennsylvania. I mean Floyd, Virginia – dirt roads, country stores, people in overalls, the real deal…

boats, beaches, bars, and ballads
Last night as I was snuggling in sweats with my standard post-work glass of wine, I had a sudden realization. My roommates and I hadn’t opened the windows in our non-air conditioned apartment since Hurricane Irene tip-toed past us. Could it be? Is summer really on its way out? I have to admit that I’m not entirely heartbroken that summer is coming to a close. I won’t miss tossing and turning all night sticking to my sheets, and I won’t miss the disgustingly humid subway platforms or the smell of rotting, baking trash lining the sidewalks. I love autumn (duh,…

the dog days of summer
As the summer winds down, so do our weekend getaways (and unfortunately, the tiny bit of color and tons of freckles that we call our tans). This was the last scheduled weekend getaway for the romantic & the hubs this summer, and the wino stayed in New York for her own relaxing staycation. Down in Monmouth County, the romantic experienced the racetrack for her first time, followed by a family party. As usual, there was way too much food involved… From crabcakes to late night pizza with slices the the size of her head The wino walked her way around…
