18 hours in cork: kicking back in the rebel city

I have spent an absurd amount of time avoiding this post for one reason: I couldn’t come up with a title! It just seems like Cork deserves a really good, punny title… but with only 18 or so hours to explore, we weren’t uncorking any secrets here. See? Clearly “Cork Uncorked” is misleading. So, while 18 hours does not an honorary Corkinese make, I still felt I had to report back because, despite the brevity of our time here, we loved Cork! It’s acorkable! Ok, sorry. According to my very quick research, Cork is Ireland’s 2nd largest city and warmly nicknamed “The Rebel City.”…

    jetsetters: @gigigriffis

What up, nerds? Good news! We are back with a new jetsetter this week: the lovely Gigi Griffis! She’s lovely because she’s a self-described “honorary European” and “risk-taking, fear-facing, world-traveling wordsmith.” Most notably, though, gf is a published author! Cha, yeah, we know. After interviewing a variety of 100 locals and long-time expats living and working in Italy, she’s done the exceptionally nice thing and compiled all of their handy dandy advice into one amazing book. In her words, it’s an “Italian best friend who can guide you through the best of Florence, Venice, the Cinque Terre…you name it.” GUYS, WE’VE ALWAYS WANTED AN…

    style spotter: summer nights

Oh glorious, glorious summer! It took you SO FREAKING LONG to get here this year. But finally! The sun is shining and the birds are chirping and I’m ready to bring out all the summer dresses that have been hiding in the back of my closet for so many months. And, with less than a month until I’m off to the Jersey Shore for a week of boat drinks and seaside relaxation, I’m starting to think about my vacation wardrobe. Though daytime is dedicated to swimsuits and cover-ups, my summer nights consist mainly of breezy dresses and nautical inspiration. A…

    city dwellers: new york’s midtown

Though most New Yorkers (and even some savvy travelers) tend to steer clear of our next City Dweller’s ‘hood, we’re letting it have the spotlight anyway. Here’s why: New York’s midtown is convenient, it’s iconic, and there are plenty — and we mean plenty — of lesser-known gems. Most importantly, though… we want to (and we tend to do what we want). If that’s not introduction enough, then we don’t know what is. Midtown Midtown is freaking huge. Stretching from the Hudson River to the East River and running from the mid-thirties all the way to the southern border of…

the rock of cashel: a photo essay

After our tour of Dublin (more here, too!), it was time to hit the road. Cork was our next overnight stop, but rather than tackling the 2.5 hour drive head on, we opted to take a quick peek at The Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary before moving on. To be perfectly honest, until the previous day when it was casually mentioned as a worthy site, I’d never heard of said rock. A quick search confirmed that it was situated up high with a view over the countryside, very pretty, and very traditionally Irish… you know, in that picturesque ruins sort of way. It’s safe…
