a food tour of rome: or, that time i ate my weight in carbs.

    February 4, 2014 /

Confession time: though baguettes & brie & pain au chocolat will always be near and dear to my heart… I really, really needed a break from French eating. So much so that we hopped on a flight pretty much specifically for a food tour of Rome and  a weekend of carboloading. Due to our location precisely in the middle of nowhere, the hubs and I have been cooking more in our day-to-day than ever before. I’m not saying that this is a bad thing — it’s actually been really fun. But, like? Seamless, we really miss you. And pizza? Real,…

weekend warriors: there’s no place like rome

    January 30, 2014 /

On my first visit to Rome, I didn’t get it. I didn’t feel the love. Florence & Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Venice: yep, got it. Italian dreams come true. But, Rome? It lacked  character, lacked panache! It was just… Rome. Ok, stop screaming. After a quick 3-day trip earlier this month, I have changed my stance. Rome, you have invaded and conquered my heart. (Get it? Empire jokes!) The hubs and I took an impromptu long weekend earlier this month thanks to some cheap airfare, arriving early on a Friday morning. Almost immediately, it was pretty easy to see where we…

    REUNITED: a travel announcement

    January 29, 2014 /

If you follow us on The Facebook (remember when it was called The Facebook?), you may have noticed: we have something in the works. That’s right, little travelers. The romantic & the wino shall be reunited once more! Where, you ask? WELL. Start spreading the news. She’s leaving in 49 days… The romantic wants to be a part of it: NEW YORK, NEW YORK. (Sorry, we know you totally have that stuck in your head now.) If you remember correctly, it’s been about two months since we were last reunited for #LTfrancais and even longer still since we were together in the Big Apple…

morocco | from the mountains to the dunes

    January 28, 2014 /

Exploring Marrakech may have been the real reason for our pre-Christmas celebration in Morocco, but with almost a full week, there was no way we were skipping the Sahara. Sandwiched in between our two nights at the Le Merdien N’Fis and our final night at the Riad Monceau, the hubs and I booked a private tour to see what else Morocco has to offer. After a bit of preliminary research, we ruled out doing any of the 2-day, 1-night excursions, even though it would have given us more time in Marrakech. My end game here was to be atop a camel…
