waimea canyon: the grand canyon of the pacific

    March 25, 2013 /

On the morning of our trip to Waimea Canyon, we woke up prepared. We had learned our lesson in Oahu and this time, we were stocking up on granola bars and wearing sneakers and staying hydrated and showing this island who’s boss! Let me tell you what: we totally owned that canyon. Outside of our own personal responsibilities, there were a few other factors we had to consider before embarking on our quest to visit Mark Twain’s “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” The Time. Number one way we just took this little daytrip and showed it who’s boss? Sneak attack.…

no travel required – the laziest edition

    March 25, 2013 /

Well hello & happy Monday! So, travelers, we need to talk. Apparently, word on the street is that Google Reader is being discontinued starting in July. This means, you are four months from being SERIOUSLY AT RISK of missing out our daily musings. We know. We’d miss you! And if you’re gone, we’d have no choice but to frown like this: You don’t want to responsible for anyone looking like this. Ever. We wanted to take this time to remind you of the ways you can stay up to speed should you currently depend on getting your LT fix via…

#LTGoWithOh – our “go with oh” bucket list

    March 24, 2013 /

With the romantic & the hubs three weeks into their RTW and the wino chin deep in real-life work, we haven’t had much time to think about our summer plans to “go with oh” and take Eastern Europe by storm. We realized this week that we’re less than 3 months out until our scheduled rendezvous! So naturally, we had a mild panic attack. It’s so close! It’s so far! What do we WEAR?! Well, good news, everyone. The wino’s airfare (at least one leg) is officially purchased, and the planning for our ultimate European reunion can recommence! As you may…

future rumslingers of america: the koloa rum tasting room

    March 21, 2013 /

Along with taking in the natural beauty of Kauai, we also enjoyed some manmade fun—namely, an afternoon at the Koloa Rum Tasting Room.  After taking a brief tour of the giftshop, our host, Jeanne, led us into the tasting room for a full-on Koloa experience with their rumslinger, Jayne. As Jayne poured us little shots of their signature rums, we chatted about the history of this award winning label and how special the island of Kauai is to the brand. Named after the first sugar plantation on Kauai, Koloa’s rum recipe has used local sugar as a key ingredient from…

five days on the garden island

    March 20, 2013 /

At first, booking a trip to Hawaii can be overwhelming. Each island has its own personality, and anyone who has visited Hawaii has a personal preference that they love to make very, very clear. Though we were flying in and out of Honolulu, we knew we wanted to visit at least one other island during our ten days. After careful research (i.e. asking, like, four other people where they recommend), we decided to add Kauai—the garden island—to our itinerary. Once we picked up our rental car from Argus, we set off to explore this new island. We already had a…
