the dog days of summer
As the summer winds down, so do our weekend getaways (and unfortunately, the tiny bit of color and tons of freckles that we call our tans). This was the last scheduled weekend getaway for the romantic & the hubs this summer, and the wino stayed in New York for her own relaxing staycation.
Down in Monmouth County, the romantic experienced the racetrack for her first time, followed by a family party. As usual, there was way too much food involved…
From crabcakes to late night pizza with slices the the size of her head
The wino walked her way around the city, people watching and stumbling upon a pop-up street fair in midtown.
Hello street vendors of 56th & 6th!
While down in New Jersey, the romantic admired the outfits at the track…
…People watched in the grandstands
And cheered for the horses she picked completely at random (not a good tactic, they ended the day $20 down).
Sunday was spent at home, the wino scrubbing her apartment top to bottom while hubs & the romantic accidentally took a three hour nap. It was definitely one of those days. All in all, it was a perfectly relaxing weekend before what promises to be another busy week.
xo,
the romantic & the wino

I think my two favorite horses were “Dapper Tapper” and “Missredhead,” who came through with big wins when we wagered. I gave it all back (and then some) on “Gaelic Schemer” and “Monkey Chunky.” I probably need a new betting adviser.
